Somnia's business model emphasizes flexibility in our variable costs, and avoids adding fixed costs whenever possible. Some of those decisions include being a remote-only team and utilizing an external flat rate engineering team. This means that we have limited the amount of non-essential talent on our payroll and can instead utilize that excess capital towards growing our DAUs. We decided on a price point of $2.99 after extensive research that showed that sub-three dollar subscription services tend to perform better in recessions and economic downturns than subscription services $4 and above. We see our greatest strength as our ability to scale when times are good, and painlessly reduce variable costs when times are bad.
