Start your journey Watch video demoSomnia allows our users to immediately document dreams after waking up using a speech to text recognition system. After turning off their alarm, users are prompted to document their dreams in an audio recording which is automatically stored in their journal.
Somnia also provides dream interpretation analytics. This is particularly valuable for users because it allows them to not only document their dreams, but understand them as well. We do this by pairing a standard voice recognition algorithm with a collection of third party dream interpretation resources. The app then tracks recurring terms, keywords, themes, etc.
Somnia makes sure to prioritize long-term documentation by providing a monthly recap and trend analysis over extended periods of time. This prompts our users to look back on their previous dreams and recognize any particular patterns that might have happened, and what that means for their overall well-being.
Our app’s benefits also go beyond the scope of simply documenting dreams, and may actually indicate improved cognitive function. According to a study from Harvard in 2010, researchers noticed that dreaming may actually reactivate and reorganize recently learned information, which can lead to improved memory and performance overall. They noticed that students who tried to navigate a complex puzzle performed significantly better when they dreamed about the maze in a nap after, even if the dreams they had didn’t necessarily depict a solution to the puzzle itself. They concluded that the dreaming brain can reorganize and consolidate memories, resulting in better performance on learned tasks. If users make an active effort to change their sleep patterns and quality based on this documentation, Somnia has the potential to lead to improved cognitive function overall.
Somnia also has a sharing feature. Although our survey data indicates that most individuals would prefer to keep their dreams private, we added a sharing functionality to allow our users to opt into the social aspect if they want. This feature makes our app serve not only their personal well-being, but makes the process of documenting dreams entertaining as well.
